Our thoughts are with the survivors and the families who have lost loved ones or remain without news of their relatives,” said Alexandre Coissac, IOM chief of mission in Djibouti, in the statement.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>He said IOM teams were on the ground alongside Djiboutian authorities to provide emergency aid.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>“This tragedy is a stark reminder of the dangers faced by migrants along this migration corridor as they seek economic opportunities” by trying to cross the Bab el-Mandeb Strait to Yemen and then to reach Gulf countries.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>Among the 109 bodies recovered were 52 men, 42 women and 15 children — nine girls and six boys — the statement said.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>More than 80 people survived the shipwreck, all Ethiopian nationals.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>“Poverty, insecurity and the growing impacts of climate change drive many to undertake this journey, despite mounting instability across the Middle East,” the IOM He was later found inside with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Lorah said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The shooter and seven of his victims were related, Lorah said. The eighth victim was a family friend.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dead inside the home were a five-year-old boy and a one-year-old girl. The others were men and women ranging in age from 19 to 51. One of the women was eight months pregnant.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Local news outlet Erie News Now said responding officers were being offered counseling over the horrifying incident.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“Many people across our community are hurting today: the neighbors who witnessed what happened, the families and friends of those who were killed, the officers and first responders who answered these calls, and others struggling to make sense of something so terrible,” Erie Mayor Daria Devlin told reporters
