An 18-year-old man, Abdullahi Aminu, has died after falling into a pond at Kofar Gabas in Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi disclosed this on Wednesday.

According to the PRO, the incident occurred on Tuesday.

He said the Fire Service received a distress call at about 3:28 p.m. from Aminu Lawan, who reported that his son had fallen into a pond.

“Upon receiving the report, Fire Service personnel from the Danbatta fire station immediately mobilised to the scene,” he said.

According to the Fire Service, its personnel arrived at the scene and found that the victim, identified as Abdullahi Aminu, had fallen into the pond.

The rescuers recovered him from the pond in an unconscious state.

“Unfortunately, he was later confirmed dead.”

The Fire Service said the victim’s body was subsequently handed over to the Secretary to the District Head of Danbatta, Alhaji Baba Ado Sarkin Bai, for further necessary action.

The agency expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased and urged residents to be careful around ponds, waterways and other bodies of water.

“The Kano State Fire Service sympathises with the family of the deceased and urges members of the public to exercise extreme caution around ponds, waterways and other bodies of water, particularly during this period.”
