Wives of the 19 northern governors have commenced activities for their second tri-annual meeting in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.
The women, under the auspices of the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum (NGWF), arrived in Yola on Tuesday afternoon and promptly began activities scheduled to culminate in their main meeting on Wednesday, September 16.
The gathering brought together the host First Lady, Hajiya Lami Ahmadu Fintiri; Dr Aisha Bala Mohammed (Bauchi); Dr Falmata Babagana Umara Zulum (Borno); Hajiya Asma’u Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe); Hajiya Hadiza Umar Namadi (Jigawa); and Hajiya Hafsat Uba Sani (Kaduna).
The other governors’ wives attending the meeting in Yola include Hajiya Maryam Abba Kabir Yusuf (Kano); Hajiya Zulaihat Dikko Radda (Katsina); Hajiya Sefinat Usman Ododo (Kogi); Professor Olufolake AbdulRazaq (Kwara); Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa); and Hajiya Fatima Mohammed Bago (Niger).
The rest are Helen Mutfwang (Plateau); Hajiya Fatima Ahmed Aliyu (Sokoto); Mrs Agyin Kefas (Taraba); Hajiya Hafsat Kollere Buni (Yobe); Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal (Zamfara); and Mrs Scholastica Terngu Ben-Sor (Benue).
Part of the women’s activities on the first of the two-day engagement in Yola was the marking of the International Day of Charity, with the donation of cash and relief items, including foodstuffs, to less privileged people.
The donation was a personal project of the host First Lady, Lami Fintiri, who handed out N20 million in cash to 200 people and relief items to 800 others, most of them women, during a brief ceremony attended by the visiting first ladies at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Yola.
In a speech on the occasion, Lami Fintiri said her gesture was driven by a desire to promote self-reliance and broaden economic well-being.
