The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old woman, Aisha Musa, over an alleged attempt to poison her husband in Gwamma village, Bauchi Local Government Area of the state.
The development was disclosed in a post shared on the command’s official X handle on Thursday, August 13, 2026, and in a statement issued by its spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib.
The incident occurred about 40 days after the couple got married, according to the report.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly mixed a poisonous substance into her husband’s food on August 12.
The victim was rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he is currently receiving treatment. The man is in a stable condition, the police said.
Police said officers were alerted through a distress call from an anonymous woman and were immediately mobilised to the scene.
The police said the suspect later confessed during interrogation.
“Suspect confessed. SCID investigating,” the command stated in its post.
An empty bottle suspected to have contained the poison, alongside remnants of food, were recovered and registered as exhibits.
The command said investigation into the incident is ongoing.
