Haiti and Turkey have become the first two nations to be eliminated from the ongoing FIFA World Cup after suffering consecutive defeats in their respective group-stage matches.

Haiti’s exit was confirmed on Friday following a comprehensive 3-0 loss to Brazil at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

The Caribbean side entered the match needing a positive result to keep their hopes of reaching the Round of 32 alive, but goals from Manchester United striker Matheus Cunha, who scored twice, and Vinicius Junior handed Brazil a comfortable victory.

The defeat left Haiti rooted to the bottom of Group C with zero points from two matches, making it mathematically impossible for them to progress to the knockout stage regardless of the outcome of their final group game.

Haiti had opened their World Cup campaign with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Scotland and were unable to recover from that setback against a dominant Brazilian side.

Turkey also saw their World Cup journey come to an early end after falling 1-0 to Paraguay in a crucial Group D encounter.

Matias Galarza scored the only goal of the match after just 63 seconds, giving Paraguay a victory that kept their own qualification hopes alive while ending Turkey’s chances of advancing.

Turkey’s elimination came after back-to-back defeats in the competition. They had previously lost to Australia in their opening group match before suffering another setback against Paraguay.

The European side remain without a point after two games and can no longer qualify for the knockout rounds.

Despite the disappointment, Turkey will still have one final opportunity to finish their campaign on a positive note when they face the United States in their last Group D fixture.

With Haiti and Turkey now out of contention, the battle for places in the Round of 32 continues among the remaining teams as the group stage enters its decisive phase.
