20 rescued NYSC members arrive Oyo

Daily Post about 1 hour 1 mins read

The 20 rescued prospective National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members have arrived in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Recall that the prospective NYSC members and one other person were rescued on Wednesday by security operatives, including the military, police and the Department of State Services, DSS.

The corps members are currently at the Oyo State headquarters of the DSS, Aleshinloye, in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that only representatives of the victims’ parents were given access to the DSS office, while the others remained outside.

DAILY POST reports that 20 of the 30 prospective corps members were abducted while travelling on two buses from Oyo to orientation camps in Abia State.

Fortunately, the remaining 10 escaped through the bush.

They, however, regained their freedom seven days after their abduction along the Owerri-Onitsha Road in Umunoha, Imo State.

The kidnappers had demanded N50 million each for the victims, amounting to N1 billion. They later reduced the ransom to N5 million per person, totalling N100 million.
