2026 Ballon d’Or: He had an incredible World Cup – MacAllister names player to win

Liverpool midfielder, Alexis MacAllister, is backing Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi to win his ninth Ballon d’Or this year.

MacAllister, speaking with ESPN, claimed that Messi was the best player at the 2026 World Cup.

He also pointed out how Messi has valued the team over individual prizes all through his career.

“As Argentines we’d love for Messi to win it. He had an incredible World Cup and I don’t see why he shouldn’t be awarded it,” MacAllister.

“We all know that Leo has always prioritised the team over individual achievements, so it wouldn’t be a big deal for him.”

Messi is among the 30 nominees for the 2026 Ballon d’Or and the winner will be announced on October 26.
