2026 World Cup: All African countries eliminated from tournament

Daily Post about 2 hours 1 mins read

Morocco’s 2-0 defeat to France in the quarter-final of the 2026 World Cup means there is no African team left at the tournament.

The Atlas Lions carried the hopes of the continent, following their impressive run in the competition.

The North Africans opened with a 1-1 draw against Brazil, before they edged Scotland 1-0.

Morrocco then defeated Haiti 4-2 to qualify from Group C as runners-up.

In the Round of 32, they eliminated The Netherlands on penalties and then thrashed co-hosts Canada 3-0 in the last 16.

Out of the 10 African teams that went to this year’s World Cup, only Egypt also reached the last 16, where they lost 3-2 to Argentina.

There were nine African countries in the Round of 32 stage: DR Congo, South Africa, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Egypt, Cape Verde, Morocco, and Algeria.
