2026 World Cup: Ghana coach, Carlos Queiroz explains burst-up with England midfielder, Bellingham

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Ghana coach, Carlos Queiroz, has accused England midfielder, Jude Bellingham of sparking a fierce altercation during their World Cup draw on Tuesday night.

The Three Lions were left disappointed with a goalless draw and must secure a victory against Panama on Saturday to ensure their advancement to the knockout stage as group winners.

Ghana’s well-organized low block posed significant challenges for the Three Lions, especially in the first half, during which Thomas Tuchel’s team failed to record a single shot on target.

As England struggled to break through, tensions escalated as halftime approached, leading to a confrontation between Queiroz and Bellingham.

The dispute arose after the Real Madrid player fouled Jerome Opoku just before the halftime whistle, pushing him in front of the dugout.

Bellingham was restrained by his teammate Morgan Rogers as Ghana’s assistant coach John Paintsil intervened, exchanging insults.

Asked to explain the confrontation after the game, Sir Alex Ferguson’s former Manchester United assistant said, “First my intention was to tell him to cool down with that tackle that he did.

“It could be a second yellow card or red card, it was clear because he went his foot against our player. But my first role was to cool down because I was worried that that player was not 100% out.

“He had a bad reaction with some bad names and that’s why the story started.”
