2026 World Cup: Morocco becomes first African country to qualify for Round of 32

Daily Post about 3 hours 1 mins read

Morocco became the first African team to officially qualify for the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup.

The Atlas Lions overcame an early scare from debutantes, Haiti to win 4-2 on Thursday.

Yassine Bounou’s own goal gave the tiny Island country the lead, but Achraf Hakimi levelled it to 1-1.

But Wilson Isidor put Haiti in front again, before Ismael Saibari scored the equalizer before half time.

Morocco then showed their class after the break, with Soufiane Rahimi and Gessime Yassine scoring to seal the win.

They finished behind group winners Brazil, who thrashed Scotland 3-0 in the other match.
