2026 World Cup: Two African countries eliminated from tournament

Daily Post about 3 hours 1 mins read

South Africa became the second African country to be eliminated from the 2026 World Cup.

Bafana Bafana suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to co-hosts Canada in a last-32 clash on Sunday.

Hugo Broos’ men held on for 90 minutes of the game, but in the first minute of stoppage time, Stephen Eustaquio struck the winning goal.

They now join Tunisia – who did not make it out of the group stages – in exiting the competition.

It was the first time South Africa would be playing in the knockouts of the World Cup.

They were among the nine African teams that made it past the group stages.
