2026 World Cup: Why I missed penalty against Morroco – Mbappe

Daily Post about 2 hours 1 mins read

France captain, Kylian Mbappe, has claimed that he missed his penalty kick against Morocco in the quarter-final of the 2026 World Cup because of the confusion surrounding it.

Mbappe had the chance to give Les Bleus the lead in the first, after he was brought down in the area by Noussair Mazraoui.

Following a brief VAR check, the 27-year-old saw a poor effort palmed away by Yassine Bounou to keep the scores at 0-0.

In the 60th minute, Mbappe eventually got his goal, curling home a stunning effort.

Ousmane Dembele added France’s second six minutes later as they qualified for the semi-finals.

When asked about his penalty miss, Mbappe said: “I shot the penalty badly, but it was tricky, there was confusion.

“The referee tells me it’s a penalty, so I got prepared. Then, he comes and tells me it may not be a penalty.

“I lost my focus, I’ve never been in a situation like this before.”
