2027: AAC sets up campaign council, targets voters across 36 states

By Dickson Omobola

African Action Congress, AAC, has said the 2027 general election is about changing Nigeria’s political direction rather than merely changing the occupant of Aso Rock.

The party, which lamented the failure of the existing political order to meet Nigerians’ expectations, announced the inauguration of the Sowore–Magashi 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, as part of efforts to strengthen its preparations for the presidential election.

AAC’s Acting National Chairman, Samuel Ajeigbe, and National Secretary, Oshiokhue Ikpeminoghena, in a statement, said the council would comprise political strategists, organisers, policy advocates, media professionals, digital campaigners, election specialists, legal practitioners, finance personnel and grassroots mobilisers.

It said the team would coordinate campaign activities across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the statement, the council would be led by its Director-General, Abdullahi Usman, supported by deputies in charge of Strategy and Political Affairs, and Diaspora and Resource Mobilisation. Juwon Sanyaolu would serve as the Campaign Council Secretary.

The party said 10 national directorates had also been established to oversee key campaign functions, including strategy and policy, grassroots mobilisation, labour and civil society engagement, publicity and communications, digital media, data and technology, election operations, finance, legal and compliance, and administration and field operations.

At the grassroots level, the campaign structure would link state, local government area, ward and polling-unit coordinators to build a nationwide network of volunteers, canvassers, polling agents and supporters.

The AAC acknowledged the role of the SOWORENOW app in coordinating support for the campaign, describing it as an important digital platform for organising supporters and managing campaign activities.

It, however, said the newly inaugurated council was not intended to replace the existing digital mobilisation structure but to expand and strengthen it through physical grassroots organisation, political coordination and community-level engagement.

The statement said: “The Presidential Campaign Council is not a replacement for this digital mobilisation infrastructure; rather, it is designed to upscale, deepen and expand it. The Council will combine the power of technology with physical grassroots organisation, political coordination and community-level mobilisation to ensure that the Sowore–Magashi campaign reaches Nigerians in every part of the country.

“The election is a defining moment for Nigeria, and the campaign would take its message to urban centres and rural communities, as well as state capitals and polling units. The 2027 election is not merely about changing the occupant of Aso Rock; it is about changing the political direction of Nigeria.

“We call on Nigerians who desire a different direction for the country to join the campaign because national change requires active public participation beyond the activities of politicians.”
