2027: Akwa Ibom Stakeholders endorse Tinubu, Akpabio, Eno

ABUJA — Ahead of the 2027 general elections, critical stakeholders from the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom State, cutting across the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and other political groups, have endorsed the re-election bids of President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno.

The stakeholders announced their endorsement in a communique issued after a meeting of political leaders and other critical stakeholders from the district.

The communique was read by the member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, Hon. Unyime Idem, and endorsed through a voice vote following a motion moved by Senator Emmanuel Ibokessien and seconded by Hon. Iboro Ekanem.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Special Assistant to the President of the Senate on Media, Jackson Udom, the stakeholders reviewed the political situation in the state and assessed the contributions and performance of the three leaders before arriving at the decision.

The communique read in part: “After reviewing the political situation and assessing the contributions and performance of the leaders and representatives, the stakeholders resolved to endorse them for another term in office in the 2027 General Elections.

“Accordingly, the meeting endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for another term as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the 2027 Presidential Election; Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio for another term as Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District in the 2027 National Assembly Election; and Governor Umo Bassey Eno for another term as Governor of Akwa Ibom State in the 2027 Governorship Election.”

Reacting to the endorsement, Akpabio attributed the development to what he described as the peaceful atmosphere in the state and the unity among political stakeholders.

He said the endorsement demonstrated that opposition parties in the state were also supporting Tinubu’s administration.

“The peace in the state has finally led to the opposition parties joining to declare that they all stand on the mandate of Mr President,” Akpabio said.

He expressed appreciation for the endorsement, saying it showed that there was unity in Akwa Ibom State, particularly in the North-West Senatorial District.

Akpabio also assured Tinubu and Eno of the district’s support during the elections.

“I can assure President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Umo Eno that the people of this district will give them 100 percent of the votes,” he said.

The Senate President noted the presence of the Akwa Ibom State PDP Chairman, Hon. Aniekan Akpan, as well as some opposition candidates in the National Assembly elections at the meeting.

He further appealed to political actors in the state to sustain peaceful coexistence and forgive one another in the interest of the state.

“I will still continue to solicit for peaceful co-existence amongst us all. Whoever we have wronged in the course of our politicking, let us forgive and forget so that we can move in one direction and one voice during the electioneering and voting,” he said.

Former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Don Etiebet; retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Udom Ekpoudom; Senators Aloysius Etuk, Emmanuel Ibokessien and Chris Ekpenyong, among other stakeholders, also pledged their support for the re-election of Tinubu, Akpabio and Eno.
