2027: Amaechi may face difficulty campaigning in Rivers – Wike warns

Daily Post 31 minutes 2 mins read

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Friday warned that former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress, ADC, vice-presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi may find it difficult to campaign in Rivers State.

Responding to a remark by Amaechi in which he claimed that only thieves could vote for President Bola Tinubu in 2027, Wike said that if the former governor continued along that line, Rivers people “will not take it”.

Wike made the remarks in Abuja after a meeting with chairmen of the six area councils in the FCT.

“If he continues this line, it will be difficult for him to campaign in Rivers. We will not take that. If security agencies and INEC can fold their hands, that’s their business, but we will not allow it,” Wike said.

The minister described Amaechi’s comments as inappropriate for a politician seeking national office and called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to address what he termed inflammatory rhetoric.

Wike insisted that political campaigns should focus on issues rather than personal attacks.

DAILY POST reports that Wike has repeatedly launched verbal attacks against the former ADC vice-presidential candidate since the commencement of the election campaign.

Experts have warned that the forthcoming elections in Rivers State could be marred by violence if security agencies fail to effectively discharge their responsibilities.
