Members of the Arewa and Yoruba communities in Asaba and Oko, Delta State, have endorsed former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the Delta North senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsements came during separate engagements with the Okowa senatorial campaign team, where members of the two communities pledged support for his candidacy and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
At Oko, in Oshimili South Local Government Area, thousands of members of the Hausa community received the campaign delegation with enthusiasm.
Addressing the gathering on behalf of Okowa, the Director-General of the campaign organisation, Hon. Pascal Adigwe, described the former governor as a competent and credible leader capable of providing effective representation for Delta North at the Senate.
Adigwe, accompanied by campaign directors and other committee members, said Okowa distinguished himself through achievements in infrastructure, human capital development and peace-building during his tenure as governor.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for what he described as their commitment to implementing their respective policy agendas under the Renewed Hope and MORE programmes.
According to him, while Tinubu is repositioning the national economy through reforms, Oborevwori is driving development in Delta State through infrastructure, improved public facilities and social intervention programmes.
Other members of the campaign team, including Barr. Ikechukwu Maduemezia and Hon. Sunny Obi, urged the communities to support all APC candidates, from the presidential and governorship elections to the National and State Assemblies.
Responding, the Arewa community chairman, Alhaji Auwul Turkur, who also heads the Delta State Pilgrims Welfare Board, said their decision to support Okowa and other APC candidates was informed by the party’s performance and popularity.
Other speakers, including Alhaji Abdullahi Suleman, Baba Rabiu, Abdul-Kadir Madaki and Lawal Iman, pledged that Arewa residents in Asaba would mobilise support for the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
The campaign team subsequently moved to Asaba, where it engaged members of the Yoruba community.
Adigwe and other campaign officials reiterated their appeal for support for Okowa and all APC candidates, stressing the need for collective political mobilisation to ensure the party’s success.
Speaking on behalf of the Yoruba community, its leader in Delta State, Asiwaju Famour Maroof Lawal, alongside Dr Yunus Adekola, Chief Otunba Fafowora, Babatunde Ismail and Madam Eunice Funke Aniche, commended the APC-led government for its contributions to national development.
They pledged their support for Tinubu’s re-election and the victory of other APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
