Tinubu surrender. The country too hard. This country is too hard. We dey vex. Look, out fuel, everything is too expensive in this country.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“Everything is too expensive. Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has expressed his commitment to a four-year term of government of national unity if elected president in 2027, insisting that his administration would not last beyond four years.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>\u003Cbr>Makinde spoke yesterday at the APM’s North-east town hall meeting with stakeholders in Yola, Adamawa State, where he described President Bola Tinubu’s administration as a failure to deliver on all its electoral promises in 2023.\u003Cbr>The governor said, ”I stand before you today to tell you that the government you will put in place from May 29, 2027, will be a transitional government of national unity.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>\u003Cbr>”Our government will not last beyond four years. And it will be an all-inclusive government, Makinde said.\u003Cbr>This clarification followed the popular agitation for presidential power to go to the North after eight years in the South.\u003Cbr>The presidential candidate challenged the federal government to publish its petroleum pricing template to clarify how fuel prices are determined and ensure transparency, insisting that Nigerians have the right to know how fuel prices are determined.\u003Cbr>He stated, “The current administration came in and told us that it had the magic wand to solve the challenges confronting us. In fact, the President said that if he failed to fix electricity for Nigeria in four years, Nigerians should not vote for him again. So, we are all aware that they have failed to provide electricity and other things they promised. So, I believe we all know how to cast our ballots.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>\u003Cbr>“They came up with the presidential policy on CNG and electric vehicles. That policy failed. They introduced the naira-for-crude initiative. That policy also failed. Yesterday, I listened to the Minister of Finance on television. He said they are now adopting price modulation for petroleum products.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>\u003Cbr>“We are asking for only two things. We do not want too much grammar; we want relief for Nigerians. So, we ask the federal government to release its pricing template so that citizens will know how they arrived at the current petroleum price and let Nigerians see how things go. If they have a better solution, they will present it.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“The fact that you are in government or the Presidential Villa does not make you the only Nigerians with sense. We have other citizens who can dissect issues and proffer solutions. So, please make your pricing template available to all, and we will make our input.”\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The APM presidential candidate identified insecurity, poverty, and inadequate electricity supply as major challenges confronting Nigeria, stressing the need for urgent measures to tackle them.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Makinde said addressing the problems required a sincere approach and inclusive policies that would reflect the needs and aspirations of Nigerians.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>He continued, “I want to say to you that 2027 will mark the end of the politics of lies and deceit. It is a time when we will all come together to establish a reset agenda and tell Nigerians the whole truth. Nigeria is home to several million people. We are the most populous Black nation on earth. We do not deserve what we are getting right now.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>On his part, the National Leader of APM and Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, said the party was emerging as a formidable opposition platform, highlighting its two governors and other elected representatives.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Mohammed added that the APM was gaining acceptance among Nigerians and expanding its membership, adding that the party had the political experience and leadership capacity needed to play a meaningful role in the country’s political development.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“APM is the number one opposition party in the country. We have two governors and other elected leaders. Whether we like it or not, we are a force to reckon with. We are a force to reckon with. Whoever does not reckon with us will do so at their peril.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>“We have members with the experience and the knowledge. I can see people trooping into our party. I wish we had started this earlier, and I wish we had discovered APM a long time ago. But God’s time is the best. Flagged off in March 2024, the highway is designed to run from Victoria Island, Lagos, through Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa Ibom states to Calabar, Cross River State.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Federal Government says the project is intended to expand coastal trade, tourism and logistics, with planned features including six lanes, concrete pavement, solar lighting and train tracks.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Controversy over the Ondo axis emerged following reports that the Federal Ministry of Works had realigned the highway away from the Ilaje coastline towards an inland corridor.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to IOCC and other stakeholders from Ilaje and Itsekiri communities, the original survey and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) indicated that the highway would enter Ondo State from Ogun State at Olosunmeta and pass through Araromi, Abetobo, Abe-Oroyo, Ogogoro, Ayetoro, Awoye, Molutehin, Ugbonla, Ilowo, Ilepete, Obe-Enikanoselu, Obe-Rewoye, Ikorigho, Jinrinwo and Igbo-Egunrin before reaching the Igbokoda waterfront and linking Ode-Ugborodo and Escravos in Delta State.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The group put the stretch at about 60 to 110 kilometres.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It alleged that the route had instead been diverted from Oke-Upare inland through Ovia North and Ovia West in Edo State to Gelegele, said to be 10 to 20 kilometres from the sea, before connecting to Warri in Delta State.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">IOCC claimed the alternative alignment would span between 130 and 190 kilometres and traverse swampy terrain requiring extensive bridge construction.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Umahi defends realignment\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The group questioned the engineering justification given by the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, for the reported change.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Umahi, at a briefing in Abuja last Wednesday, defended the decision, saying it was based on sound engineering considerations and that the government had no regrets over it.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“We have no regret for decisions taken at Ondo. For us, it is their right to write a petition; it is my right to take the right decision,” the minister said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He explained that sections of the original route contained pits more than 100 metres deep, with no sharp sand within 300 metres, making construction technically difficult and more expensive because of the extensive filling and ground stabilisation required.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, IOCC disputed the cost argument, estimating that construction along the original coastal route would cost between N4 billion and N7.5 billion per kilometre, compared with N7.5 billion to N12 billion per kilometre for the inland alignment, which it said would involve difficult terrain and extensive bridges.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The group cited previous road projects in similar terrain to challenge the suggestion that the Ilaje corridor was unsuitable for construction.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It referenced the Igbokoda-Ugbonla road, built by the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), and a Ugbonla-Awoye road contract reportedly awarded by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in 2010.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“If roads can be constructed within the Ilaje coastal environment, what specific engineering, geological, environmental or financial considerations make the proposed coastal highway route impracticable?” the group asked.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It called on the Ministry of Works to publish the feasibility studies, geotechnical and soil investigations, EIA reports and comparative cost-benefit analyses for both alignments.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">IOCC also demanded an independent assessment by qualified engineers, arguing that advances in bridge construction, coastal protection and tunnelling should be considered before the coastal corridor was ruled impracticable.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Group warns of economic consequences\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond the technical questions, IOCC said the reported realignment had significant economic and social implications for coastal communities.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The group said Ilaje had Nigeria’s longest coastline, estimated at between 80 and 100 kilometres, and contributed more than 60,000 barrels of crude oil daily, yet continued to face sea incursion, coastal erosion, poor road access and limited economic opportunities.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It listed Abereke, Orioke, Magbehinwa, Idiogba, Mese, Ayetoro and Awoye-Odofado among the communities it said could be affected.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the organisation, excluding the coastal axis could limit opportunities in fisheries, agriculture, tourism, trade and logistics, discourage investment and further isolate communities whose ancestral homes, fishing grounds and livelihoods were already threatened.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The petition follows a joint resolution by Ilaje and Itsekiri leaders in Lagos on September 19, 2026, at which the two groups reportedly agreed to work together to ensure that the highway retained its original coastal route and threatened legal action over the alleged diversion.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, and pan-Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere have also criticised the reported realignment, arguing that moving a coastal highway inland could undermine its intended purpose.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seeks Tinubu’s intervention\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">IOCC urged Tinubu to intervene, the National Assembly to exercise its oversight powers and the Federal Ministry of Works to provide a comprehensive public explanation supported by verifiable data.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It also called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to scrutinise any credible evidence of financial misconduct, abuse of office or improper influence connected with the route change.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“This is a call for accountability, not a declaration of guilt. Any allegation of wrongdoing should be investigated fairly, and any findings should be based on verifiable evidence,” the group said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The organisation further demanded meaningful consultations with affected communities, traditional institutions and civil society before a final decision was taken on the alignment.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It stressed that its campaign was not directed against any individual or state but was intended to ensure fairness in the implementation of a major national infrastructure project.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“The Ilaje people are Nigerians. Ondo State is an integral part of the Nigerian federation.
