2027: Collect PVCs, vote out APC, APM candidate tells Ogun voters

By James Ogunnaike, Abeokuta

ABEOKUTA — The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, in Ogun State, Rotimi Babajide, has urged registered voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, and vote massively for the party in the 2027 general elections.

Babajide made the call on Thursday in Abeokuta at a town hall meeting organised by the party ahead of the elections.

The candidate accused the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of worsening the hardship faced by residents over the past 12 years and urged voters to reject the party at the polls.

He appealed to eligible voters to participate actively in the electoral process, saying the APM had solutions to what he described as the challenges confronting the state.

Babajide also cautioned residents against selling their votes, urging them to use their PVCs to elect candidates capable of improving their welfare.

Addressing hundreds of party supporters, the town planner unveiled part of his blueprint for Ogun State, promising equal access to education through digital tools for pupils and students in public and private schools.

He also pledged to run an inclusive, people-centred administration with emphasis on women and youths.

Babajide said, “This poverty is too much, this hunger is too much in the land. Let’s vote out poverty, let’s vote out hunger.

“My administration will focus on women and youths and run an inclusive government that prioritises the people.

“Every facility and government benefit will go down to everybody in Ogun State. We will ensure equality across all schools and communities.

“Ogun State is endowed with limestone and is now officially recognised as an oil-producing state. The state’s development plan is unquestionable and will bring prosperity.”

He urged voters to use the state’s large voting population to effect political change, saying Ogun had more than three million registered voters.

“Vote out poverty; this poverty is too much, this hunger is too much. Let’s vote out poverty, let’s vote out hunger. Let’s vote APM.

“We are going to focus on our women, we are going to focus on our youths, and we are going to have an inclusive government. This is a people-centric Ogun,” he said.

On agriculture, Babajide lamented what he described as the decline of Nigeria’s agricultural system, attributing it to rural-urban migration and the abandonment of farming for white-collar jobs.

He said an APM administration would make agriculture more attractive and inclusive, using cassava as a symbol of what he described as an agricultural revolution in Ogun State.

Earlier, the state chairman of the party, Comrade Abayomi Sanyaolu, criticised the APC over what he described as excessive spending on political campaigns while basic amenities remained inadequate in many communities.

Sanyaolu questioned the rationale behind spending billions of naira on campaigns for governorship, senatorial and House of Representatives positions when citizens were still struggling to access basic necessities.

“You are wasting billions of naira to campaign to contest for governor, to contest for House of Representatives, to contest for Senate. Why not provide basic amenities such as potable water for citizens? Give us good water,” he said.

The party chairman also cautioned voters against selling their votes for small amounts of money, urging them to consider the long-term consequences of their choices at the ballot box.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is scheduled to commence nationwide collection of PVCs on Friday ahead of the 2027 general elections.
