Let us urge them to dust off their PVCs and use them.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">”In these difficult times, the ballot is more than a card; it is a powerful instrument for deciding whether life becomes affordable again,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Atiku called on the campaign council members to take the message to communities nationwide, mobilising Nigerians to vote for recovery and improved living conditions.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said electoral transparency was essential to democracy, stressing that policies and security plans would achieve little if citizens’ votes were stolen during elections.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Atiku said Nigerians must trust that votes cast would be accurately counted, adding that democracy depended on respecting citizens’ sovereignty and protecting their electoral choices.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said accredited party agents, civil society organisations and observers should be allowed to verify results independently, noting that such activities would complement INEC’s responsibilities.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“Let me state clearly: transparency is not a crime. Accredited party agents, civil society organisations and observers have the right to independently verify results and operate situation rooms.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">”They do not replace INEC; they help confirm that the national outcome reflects what was recorded at each polling unit.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“Technology must serve the people, not hide the process: election systems must be open to scrutiny and independent audit,” he added.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The former vice-president called for severe penalties for vote suppression, result manipulation and electoral fraud, describing such safeguards as necessary measures for protecting the people’s mandate.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Atiku condemned attempts to prevent opposition candidates from campaigning in Benue, insisting that no community should become inaccessible to opposition political parties.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He pledged that ADC candidates would campaign across all states, from coastal communities to northern regions, and resist unlawful attempts to restrict their political activities.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On petroleum policy, Atiku advocated support for products refined locally and sold domestically, proposing budgetary allocations, spending caps and independent audits to ensure accountability.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“Fuel is only one part of the damage. We must make food affordable, restore reliable power, put people to work and let businesses grow. Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed President Bola Tinubu’s 30-day petrol discount as an inadequate response to years of economic hardship, saying Nigerians would hold the administration accountable in the 2027 general election.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Atiku argued that a temporary reduction in petrol prices could not reverse the rising cost of food, transportation, electricity and business operations, insisting that Nigerians needed lasting relief rather than what he described as an election-season palliative.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking at the inauguration of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja on Friday, the former Vice President accused Tinubu of adopting the principle behind his proposed production subsidy after previously dismissing it, but failing to implement the policy’s essential safeguards.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“Thirty days cannot erase three and a half years of hardship. Nigerians have heard your excuses and endured your failed promises. They are ready to judge your record,” Atiku said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He challenged the President to explain what would happen after the discount expired and whether transport fares and the cost of moving agricultural produce and running businesses would actually fall.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“When I proposed targeted support to ease fuel costs, you called me ignorant of economic policy. Your government said it could not be done. Now, in a desperate and clumsy retreat, you have shamelessly embraced the principle you mocked. You owe me an apology,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Atiku said his proposal would support petroleum products refined in Nigeria and sold locally, with government assistance capped, budgeted and independently audited, while excluding imported products.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“My alternative is clear. Support petroleum products actually refined in Nigeria and sold to Nigerians. Cap the support. Put it in the budget. Audit it independently. Exclude imports. Show the public what it costs and what they save,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also called for measures to make food affordable, restore reliable electricity, create jobs, expand business opportunities and secure roads and farms, arguing that economic recovery must translate into tangible improvements in household welfare.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Turning to the campaign council, Atiku charged members to take the ADC’s message to markets, motor parks, farms, campuses and communities, explain the party’s proposed policies and demonstrate how they would be funded.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He described the 2027 election as a contest over the welfare of Nigerian families and urged eligible voters to mobilise behind the opposition party.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“Another four years of Bola Tinubu means another four years of hunger, hardship and national decline,” he said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Atiku also demanded electoral reforms to protect votes, including immediate public access to polling-unit results, live broadcasts of state and national collation centres, and independent audits of election technology before and after elections.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He called for an independent commission to investigate and prosecute electoral offences, as well as stronger penalties for vote suppression, result tampering and fraud.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ADC candidate further accused APC-controlled governments of restricting opposition campaigns, citing an attempt to prevent an opposition candidate from campaigning in Benue State.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">“There will be no ‘no-go’ areas in Nigeria.
