Five National Assembly candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State have accused the Kwankwasiyya Movement of intimidation over the rightful bearer of the party in next year’s election.
The concerned candidates equally accused the Kwankwasiyya political movement of the NDC of harassment and an attempt to blackmail the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to replace the authentic list of the party.
The candidates include Abdulmajid Umar, Gwale Federal Constituency; Shaaban Sharada, Kano Municipal Federal Constituency; Ishmael Sani, Kumbotso Federal Constituency; Ibrahim Bango, Sumaila/Takai Federal Constituency; and Nasir Ahmed, Nassarawa Federal Constituency of Kano State.
In a seven-page complaint dated 17th October, 2026, signed by Bola AIDI, SAN & Co. solicitors, and made available to newsmen in Kano, the five candidates faulted the recent petition filed by Kwankwasiyya before INEC, instead challenging the movement to respect the Federal High Court Judgement.
According to the complainants, the 14th October 2026 judgment of the Federal High Court in Kano, which validated two of them as the authentic NDC candidates in Kano and reserved judgment on three others, should be respected.
The complainants regretted that despite fulfilling all lawful requirements and provisions of the Constitution of the party which prompted the submission of their names by the National headquarters to INEC, an influential political leader within NDC in Kano has frustrated the due process.
The complainants insisted no ‘political leader’ in Kano NDC will be allowed to substitute the submission of the national headquarters to INEC or impose his will upon the judgment of a competent court.
“The influential political leader within NDC in Kano has openly expressed determination to prevent them from contesting the 2027 election in Kano under NDC. The recent protest at INEC was against the five candidates,” they said.
According to the concerned candidates, the protest by Kwankwasiyya and the submission of a petition against one Hauwa Buhari, accused of tampering with NDC documents at INEC, did not reflect the position of the leadership of NDC.
The complainants insisted that the protest, which came a few days after the judgment of the Federal High Court that affirmed the candidature of the party against the nomination of Kwankwasiyya, was orchestrated by an ‘aggrieved dictator’ in Kano who does not believe in the rule of law and the constitution of the NDC.
