2027: I won’t have sought re-election if … – Otti

By Ugochukwu Alaribe, UMUAHIA

Abia State Governor Dr Alex Otti has said that he wouldn’t have sought re-election as governor if he had completed all the works he had set out to do in his administration.

He disclosed that he is seeking a second term in office because there is still unfinished work to be done.

Otti stated this at his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South council, during a 10,000-man solidarity march organised by some stakeholders from the area, convened by the Labour Party House of Assembly candidate in the 2023 general elections, Mr Dannie Ubani.

He noted that if his administration had completed its mission, there would have been no need to seek re-election, stressing that there is still significant work ahead to be done in his administration’s quest to transform the state.

Acknowledging the role of opposition in a democratic setting, Otti, however, berated certain opposition elements in the state for engaging in what he described as “politics of witchcraft”.

He dismissed threats from what he termed “insignificant opposition elements”, which he said do not constitute up to 5% of the state.

The governor insisted that constructive criticism would be meaningful if it were focused on acknowledging what his administration has done and what they will do better, given the opportunity, rather than denying what they can see.

He commended the people for their continued support, including the convener of the rally, Mr Dannie Ubani, for organising the event.

He said, “If I had finished the work that I came to do, I wouldn’t be seeking a second term.” If this administration had completed its mission, there would have been no need to seek re-election. But there is still significant work to be done in this administration’s quest to transform the state.”

In his remarks, the convener of the rally, Mr Dannie Ubani, stated that the rally was organised to show solidarity with the governor and to showcase his achievements.

Ubani also stated his unwavering support for the governor’s re-election bid in 2027.
