2027: INEC takes voter education campaign to Ondo Central

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ondo State, Mutiu Agboke, has urged stakeholders to believe in the electoral process and trust the leadership of the commission.

This came as the commission intensified voter education and stakeholder engagement across the state as part of preparations for the 2027 General Election.

The commission held a stakeholders’ meeting in Akure, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss the electoral process, ongoing reforms and citizen participation.

The meeting focused on the need for stakeholders to understand the electoral process and encourage eligible citizens to participate actively in the 2027 General Election.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Agboke said the reforms being implemented by INEC were designed to strengthen the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral system and improve public confidence in the electoral process.

According to him, “although the Commission had not reached its desired destination, significant progress had been recorded in Nigeria’s electoral process.

“INEC remained committed to protecting citizens’ votes and ensuring that votes cast during elections were properly counted.

“Valid votes will count and will remain the determining factor in the choice of leaders.”

Agboke also announced that the nationwide display of the Preliminary Register of Voters would commence on October 9, 2026, across the 203 electoral wards in Ondo State.

He explained that the exercise would enable eligible citizens to verify their voter information and make claims or objections where necessary.

The REC, who announced that the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) would commence simultaneously, urged citizens, especially those who transferred their registration during the recently concluded Continuous Voter Registration exercise, to collect their cards.

The stakeholder engagement formed part of INEC’s broader efforts to deepen collaboration, strengthen voter education and promote an inclusive, peaceful and credible electoral process ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The engagement series is expected to continue in Okitipupa on Friday, October 9, 2026.
