ENUGU — The Youth Wing of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, South-East Zone, has commenced a grassroots mobilisation campaign across the five states of the region ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group said the campaign would take the party’s message to markets, campuses, communities and wards in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states.
The mobilisation drive was launched in Enugu during the NDC 2026 Zonal Market and Campus Tour.
A communiqué signed by the zonal youth leader, Mazi Igwe Ogbonnaya, and Enugu Youth Leader, Engr. Jideofor Richard, said the initiative was aimed at expanding the party’s structures and engaging young people across the region.
Ogbonnaya said the campaign would take the NDC’s message directly to the grassroots and encourage young people to participate actively in the political process.
“We are taking the NDC message directly to the people. From Abia to Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo, we will engage our youths in markets, campuses and communities,” he said.
He added that the Enugu flag-off marked the beginning of sustained grassroots mobilisation across the five states.
“This is not just a tour; it is an engagement with the people at the grassroots. We are going to the wards, markets, campuses and communities to listen to the people and present our message,” the group said.
The NDC youth wing also declared support for the party’s recognised candidates for the 2027 elections, including its presidential candidate, Peter Obi; governorship candidate, Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa; and candidates contesting National and State Assembly seats.
It called on affiliate youth groups, including Kwankwasiya youths and the Obidient Movement, to collaborate with the party for peaceful political participation.
The group also expressed concern over alleged attacks and intimidation of political supporters in parts of Enugu State and called on security agencies to investigate the incidents.
It appealed to the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Enugu State Government and other stakeholders to ensure a peaceful and level playing field for political parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
