The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, in Zamfara State has vowed to remain steadfast in its 2027 governorship ambition, insisting that criticism and alleged falsehoods will not derail its plans to “salvage” the state.
The party’s publicity secretary, Kassim Almustafa Kayatawa, stated this in a statement issued on Wednesday while responding to an article by Suleiman Ahmad Tudu, a Senior Special Assistant on Media in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.
The article, titled “The Candidate Campaigning with a Resignation Letter,” questioned the governorship ambition of the NDC candidate, Senator Kabir Garba Marafa.
The NDC described the publication as misleading, alleging that it contained falsehoods and misrepresented Marafa’s position.
“We remain firm; no falsehood will deter our dream to salvage Zamfara State,” the party said.
It explained that Marafa’s remarks during an interview with DCL Hausa were not an attempt to campaign with a resignation letter but a statement about accountability and responsible leadership.
According to the party, Marafa acknowledged that the Federal Government and the Zamfara State Government have separate responsibilities. The party said he had pledged to fulfil his duties as governor while pressing the Federal Government to meet its obligations.
The NDC added that Marafa had said he would resign only if his efforts to ensure the Federal Government fulfilled its responsibilities failed to produce results.
The party accused Tudu of taking Marafa’s remarks out of context to score political points.
“That is the language of a leader with integrity. That is the language of a man who does not believe in deceiving the people with empty promises,” the party said.
