2027: 'North has turned against Tinubu' - Umar Ardo

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

The Convener of the League of Northern Democrats, Dr Umar Ardo, says the North has openly turned against the policies of President Bola Tinubu.

Ardo made this assertion on Tuesday while fielding questions in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’.

According to him, growing anger over insecurity, poverty and the high cost of living has turned many northerners against the Tinubu administration.

He said if a free and fair election is held in 2027, Tinubu may get less than 10 percent of northern votes.

Ardo blamed the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira for worsening hardship in the North, where he said many families depend on farming and small trade.

He said farmers can no longer go to farms because of banditry and kidnapping, while prices of food and transport have gone beyond the reach of ordinary people.

“The North has a dislike for the Tinubu administration. Not necessarily for Tinubu as a person, because 99.99% of Nigerians do not know Tinubu as a person. So what they dislike is Tinubu's policies.

“And over the years, Tinubu has not been able to change those policies to align with what people perceive to be skewed towards his own territory. So the North that gave Tinubu 63.6% of the total votes in 2023 is basically in revolt,” he said.

He also said many northerners feel left out of federal appointments and that the government has not shown enough concern for their plight.
