2027: Omission of opposition politicians shows your incompetency – MURIC tackles INEC

Daily Post about 3 hours 2 mins read

Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has expressed displeasure over the omission of some opposition politicians from the list of governorship candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

MURIC said the omission reflected what it described as the commission’s incompetence.

The organisation made this known in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Professor Isiaq Akintola.

The statement was made available to DAILY POST on Monday.

DAILY POST gathered that the commission had released the names of governorship candidates contesting the 2027 elections in the country on Sunday.

It was learnt that the names of some governorship candidates were missing from the list.

Among the omitted candidates were former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Gombe State, and Chief Oladipupo Olatunde Adebutu, the PDP candidate in Ogun State.

Reacting to the development, Akintola described the situation as worrisome and unfortunate.

He described the omission as another attempt by INEC to silence opposition politicians.

Akintola said in the statement: “MURIC finds the omissions very disturbing, and that is to say the least. We suspect a well-coordinated manoeuvre to outwit opposition parties by all means possible.

“MURIC is of the humble opinion that INEC should allow the performance of the APC administration to persuade the electorate instead of adopting rough tackles against the opposition. This is not good enough in a heavily globalised world.”
