The City Boy Movement, a political support group, has entered into a strategic partnership with the FCT chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to mobilise more than 42,000 volunteers ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The partnership was formalised during a courtesy visit by the movement’s leadership to the FCT APC State Office in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, the FCT Director and Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, Mr Bitrus Garki, said the initiative would focus on voter registration, grassroots sensitisation and youth empowerment.
Garki said the movement was expanding its structure across the FCT’s 2,822 polling units to strengthen support for President Bola Tinubu and APC candidates in future elections.
He explained that although the movement has a wide national and international network, it remains a support group committed to advancing the ideals and programmes of the APC.
“City Boy Movement is not a political party; it is a support group. We believe in President Bola Tinubu and the founding principles of the APC.
“We are building a polling-unit structure across the 2,822 polling units in the FCT, with a target of over 42,000 volunteers.
“Our membership registration will also serve as a platform for tracking beneficiaries of future social intervention programmes,” he said.
Garki outlined a seven-point collaboration proposal with the party, including joint voter registration campaigns, youth leadership development, community outreach and digital advocacy.
He also announced plans to empower 1,000 residents on July 14 and launch a Community Impact Project that would provide solar-powered streetlights and healthcare interventions across the FCT’s 62 political wards.
Regarding the Tinubu administration’s performance, Garki expressed confidence in the government’s policies and programmes.
According to him, the administration has demonstrated a commitment to addressing security challenges and implementing economic reforms to improve living conditions.
He added that ongoing infrastructure projects in the FCT, especially road construction in rural communities, were evidence of the administration’s efforts.
Commenting on opposition political alignments ahead of 2027, Garki said he remained confident in the APC’s prospects, citing the party’s grassroots mobilisation and ongoing development initiatives.
In his remarks, the FCT APC Chairman, Mr Ishaku Yamawo, welcomed the partnership and described the movement’s mobilisation strategy as a valuable addition to the party’s efforts.
Yamawo, however, urged the group to focus more on rural communities, where voter mobilisation and registration were most needed.
“This interaction has come at the right time because our priority now is voter registration.
“Let us not limit the activities of the City Boy Movement to the city centre. We want you to take your activities to the area councils, wards and polling units,” he said.
He noted that voter registration exercises often required logistics, mobility and other forms of support, especially in remote communities, and expressed confidence that the movement could complement the party’s efforts.
Also speaking, the FCT APC Women Leader, Hajiya Faridah Odangi, stressed the importance of sustained grassroots engagement, describing the FCT electorate as politically aware and independent-minded.
“FCT is very important in the 2027 election. Success will depend on hard work, engagement and direct interaction with the people.
“If resources and empowerment programmes are provided, they should reach the grassroots to strengthen public confidence,” she said.
Similarly, the FCT APC Secretary, Mr Ibrahim Kuje, urged the movement to align its activities with existing party structures at the grassroots level.
“All politics is local. No matter how extensive your national or international network is, it must translate into effective mobilisation at the polling-unit level.
“Elections are won through practical engagement with the people and party structures on the ground,” he said.
The event was attended by the National Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, Mr Mukhtar Akoshile, and other stakeholders.
It also featured the decoration of the FCT APC chairman, secretary, women leader and other party executives with the movement’s customised caps and sashes.
