Two chieftains of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Sokoto State, Abubakar Attajiri and Aminu Gidan-Kanawa, have defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Attajiri, the ADC state deputy youth leader, and Gidan-Kanawa joined the APC alongside their supporters on Saturday.
They were received at the APC state secretariat in Sokoto by the party’s state chairman, Haruna Adiya, alongside other party leaders.
Adiya welcomed the defectors and assured them of equal treatment with other party members.
The two former ADC chieftains said their decision to join the APC was influenced by what they described as the achievements of Governor Ahmed Aliyu and the leadership of former governor and senator, Aliyu Wamakko.
The defectors also expressed confidence in the APC leadership in the state and pledged to mobilise support for the party ahead of the elections.
