Vice-presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, Lawal Musa Daura, has said President Bola Tinubu is “not a stranger” to him and can be defeated in the 2027 presidential election.
Daura stated this on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he spoke about his relationship with Tinubu, his political experience working with former President Buhari, his partnership with APM presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, and the 2027 contest.
Asked whether Tinubu could be beaten in the election, Daura responded: “Very well,” because, according to him, the President’s government has made “several errors.”
Daura, a former Director-General of the Department of State Services, DSS, said his relationship with Tinubu went beyond politics, stressing that he knows the President well.
“President Bola Tinubu is not a stranger to me. Even though he is our of the nation, he’s the leader, the commander in chief, in other class, we’re friends. We know ourselves very well. Me and him, we know ourself. There are lots of things being ascribed to him which he’s not,” he said.
Speaking on his relationship with former President Muhammadu Buhari, under whom he served as Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Daura said he still missed the late president and recalled the risks he took while serving him.
“I do miss Muhammadu Buhari. I took bullets for him,” he said.
Daura also criticised what he described as the influence of sycophants around Buhari, saying they betrayed the former president’s trust and took advantage of his administration.
“There were so many sycophants around Buhari; they betrayed the trust he gave them and took advantage of that government,” he !added.
On why Nigerians should support the Makinde-Daura ticket, the APM vice-presidential candidate said both men shared a common understanding and vision for the country.
“We are a pair that seems to really understand each other; we share the same passion for this country, and don’t forget, one of our mottos is that we are resetting this country,” Daura said.
Daura granted the interview after Makinde’s presidential campaign office was unveiled in Abuja, where the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi described Makinde as qualified to become President.
Obi, who attended the unveiling, said Nigerians should be allowed to freely choose their preferred candidate and that political leaders should work together regardless of who emerges victorious in the 2027 election.
