…Describes opposition candidates as jokers
By Jeff Agbodo, Abakaliki
Minister of Works, David Umahi, has projected that President Bola Tinubu and Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru will secure 95 per cent of votes in the state in the 2027 general elections.
Umahi, who is the Deputy Director-General for Infrastructure, Mobilisation and Sensitisation of the Tinubu/All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, spoke on Sunday in Abakaliki during a South-East sensitisation campaign covering Ebonyi North and Central senatorial zones.
He expressed confidence in the electoral prospects of Tinubu, Nwifuru and other APC candidates, while describing opposition politicians seeking to win the state as “jokers”.
The former Ebonyi governor declared the state firmly behind the APC, saying the party would intensify its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the elections.
“President Bola Tinubu is going to win a second tenure. Governor Francis Nwifuru is going to win a second tenure,” Umahi said.
He added that the party would target 95 per cent of polling units in the state, rather than settle for an 80 per cent victory.
“We are not looking for 80 per cent win; we are looking to win 95 per cent of our polling units, and we will go for it. We will campaign for it and educate our people for it,” he said.
Umahi said the APC planned to adopt an intensive grassroots campaign strategy, including visits to residents in their homes to communicate the party’s message.
“The style of our campaign this time is going to be very dynamic. We will knock on the doors of our fathers and mothers at 6am and deliver our campaign messages to them,” he said.
He also expressed confidence that wealthy residents, youths, elders and women in Ebonyi would contribute resources to support the party’s campaign.
The minister said the state had benefited from projects being undertaken by the Tinubu administration, citing road construction and bridge projects linking communities in the South-East and neighbouring states.
He listed projects linking Ndibe Beach, Onueke, Ukwuachi and Ishieke, as well as road connections towards Benue, Enugu, Kogi and Nasarawa states.
According to Umahi, the projects would improve connectivity and reduce travel time between Ebonyi and Abuja when completed.
He also said work was ongoing to complete the Oferekpe road and bridge to improve links with other South-East communities.
Umahi urged residents to support Tinubu, Nwifuru and APC candidates, arguing that the projects being executed by the Federal Government justified continued support for the party.
At the event, the traditional ruler of Nkaliki Unuhu Achara, Eze Sunday Oketa, expressed confidence that Ebonyi would support APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
Umahi’s projection of a 95 per cent vote share represents the campaign council’s target; the eventual outcome will be determined by voters at the polls.
