A United States-based policy advisory and lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu’s administration influenced the court ruling that invalidated the David Mark leadership of the African Democratic Congress,ADC, out of fear of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s growing political influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It said the development came amid growing political tensions in the United States, with the Republican caucus controlling Congress until January 2027 and Democrats preparing to investigate Tinubu’s mining Memorandum of Understanding, MOU.
In a statement, the firm claimed that the Nigerian Presidency had picked the wrong time to allegedly carry out an attempt to rig the forthcoming presidential election.
“Apparently scared by yesterday’s turnout in support of former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who happens to be President Tinubu’s main political opponent, Tinubu’s officials reportedly met last night, and the result of that meeting is allegedly this highly suspicious court ruling,” the firm stated.
The firm further disclosed that it was gathering information on the development and would engage senior members of the administration of US President Donald Trump, as well as Republican and Democratic lawmakers in Congress.
“We are gathering more information and will be engaging with senior members of the realDonaldTrump administration, as well as Republicans and Democrats in Congress,” it added.
The firm warned that the alleged actions of the Tinubu administration could push Nigeria closer to political unrest, with possible consequences for US interests and regional stability.
“The alleged actions of President Tinubu risk pushing Nigeria closer to political unrest, with dire consequences for U.S. interests and regional stability,” the statement said.
