The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has condemned the violent attack on members and coordinators of the party, and the Obidient Movement in Delta State.
In a post on his verified X handle, Obi, who condemned the attack, said the party would not tolerate such frequent attacks.
He said he was profoundly saddened and deeply disturbed by the reports of violence directed at his coordinators, supporters, and fellow citizens.
"I unequivocally condemn the attacks against our coordinators, supporters, and fellow citizens who were merely exercising their democratic rights. We won't take this anymore," Obi said.
According to him, political violence has no place in a democracy and can never be justified.
He added that it is troubling that at a time when Nigeria urgently needs responsible leadership, some individuals still believe that political influence can be secured through thuggery, fear, and violence.
The former Anambra State governor urged the government and security agencies to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation into the attacks. He charged them to identify those responsible and ensure that they face justice, irrespective of their political affiliations.
