The federal government has concluded plans to relocate genuine allottees of the defunct Site and Services Scheme in Dukpa, Gwagwalada, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), 34 years after the residential and service plots were allocated.

The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development said it would conduct a final three week verification exercise from September 7, 2026, to authenticate the claims of affected allottees and other holders of genuine interests in the scheme ahead of their relocation to an alternative site secured within Gwagwalada.

The plots were originally allocated in 1992 by the then Federal Ministry of Works and Housing for private development. However, the federal government subsequently revoked the allocations and other interests in the area for the overriding public purpose of implementing the National Housing Programme.

The ministry, in a statement from the Director of Press and Public Relations, Badamasi Haiba, said the relocation was being undertaken in line with Section 28(2B) of the Land Use Act, Cap 202, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, as amended.

“ The exercise will run strictly on working days within the stated period. Any plot or allottee not verified within the timeframe will not be included in the relocation to the alternative site,” the statement added.

It urged affected allottees to appear for the verification exercise with their original and photocopies of their letters of allocation, payment receipts, valid identification, sworn affidavits supporting their claims of ownership and passport photographs.

The exercise will take place on working days at the office of the Presidential Technical Committee on Land Reform in Garki 2 and the Department of Lands and Housing Development at the ministry’s headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja.

The ministry warned that any plot or allottee not verified within the three week window would be excluded from the relocation exercise, adding that there would be no further extension.

“ In line with Section 28(2B) of the Land Use Act, Cap 202, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (as amended), the ministry has concluded arrangements to relocate all genuine allottees to an alternative site secured within Gwagwalada, and has scheduled a final verification exercise to authenticate claims ahead of the relocation,” the ministry stated.
