The 47th edition of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) sponsored Senior Tennis Championship yesterday began at the Tennis Complex, Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

The championship will culminate in a grand finale on June 20, at the same venue.

The tournament will feature exciting contests in the men’s and women’s singles and doubles categories, alongside wheelchair events for both men and women, showcasing some of the nation’s finest tennis talents.

For nearly five decades, the championship has remained a vital platform for talent discovery and development, producing players who have gone on to represent Nigeria with distinction at prestigious international competitions, including the Davis Cup and the All-Africa Games.

Widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most prestigious tennis tournaments, the CBN Senior Tennis Championship has nurtured and showcased outstanding athletes such as Sunday Maku, David Imonite, Veronica Oyibokia-Iwebema, Christy Agugbom, Sarah Adegoke, Sylvester Emmanuel, Joseph Imeh, Oyinlomo Quadri, and Marylove Edwards.

The championship continues to underscore the CBN’s commitment to youth development, sports excellence, and the promotion of tennis across Nigeria.
