Police have arrested eight suspects in an operation targeting electricity vandalism in Kyengera Town Council and surrounding areas.

The operation was conducted between November 4 and 5, 2026, by Territorial Police in Nsangi in collaboration with officers from the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) and MUMU Power Solutions Ltd.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the operation was aimed at combating electricity infrastructure vandalism and other related offences.

The suspects arrested include Naluwanga Clare, Nakumba Winnie, Sulaiman Titagia, Sseguya Edward, Kavuma Christopher, Kimbugwe Yasin, Lubowa Muhammad and Kabuguza Geoffrey.

The eight are currently detained at Kyengera Police Station pending their presentation before the Utilities Court to answer charges related to the alleged offences.

Police commended the cooperation between security agencies and electricity sector stakeholders, noting that joint operations are critical in addressing the growing threat of vandalism targeting electricity infrastructure.

The force also cautioned members of the public against destroying or interfering with electricity installations, warning that such acts disrupt service delivery and result in significant financial losses.

Owoyesigyire said investigations into the matter are ongoing.
