Security agencies in Abia State have held a strategic meeting at the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, office in Umuahia, on how to protect INEC staff during the 2027 general elections in Abia State.

The meeting also focused on strategic deployment of security personnel, safe escort of election materials and analysis of various threats facing the smooth conduct of elections across the state.

The meeting, which was attended by the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Afolabi, also had heads of sister security agencies in the state in attendance.

The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, also participated in the security meeting.

Speaking about the meeting, Abia State Police Command said it would work in synergy with other security agencies to protect electoral officials and materials, as well as secure a peaceful environment throughout the election period.

A statement signed by DSP Maureen Chinaka, said, "The meeting also emphasised the need for robust security arrangements at INEC offices and other critical locations to safeguard the electoral process."

"It further highlighted the importance of implementing the Inspector-General of Police’s directives on electoral security", Chinaka said.
