Abiodun swears in 2,913 NYSC corps members in Ogun

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has charged members of the 2026 NYSC Batch C, Stream 1 to make meaningful contributions to the development of their host communities during their service year.

Abiodun made the call at the formal opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 NYSC Batch C, Stream 1 Orientation Course held at the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu.

The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Sports Development, Wasiu Isiaka, said the state remained committed to creating an environment where young people could thrive and realise their full potential.

He said the administration’s Building Our Future Together Agenda prioritised youth empowerment and human capital development through several deliberate initiatives.

According to him, the formal induction marked the beginning of a transformative journey that would challenge the corps members to move beyond their comfort zones, broaden their horizons and prepare them for greater responsibilities in life.

Abiodun added that through the NYSC scheme, young Nigerians were exposed to diverse cultures, traditions and perspectives, thereby fostering unity, mutual understanding and patriotism.

“I encourage you to see your service year as an opportunity to make a positive impact in host communities. Be agents of change, identify problems and provide innovative solutions, demonstrate leadership, compassion and commitment to community development,” the governor said.

Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mrs Frances Adewuyi, advised the corps members to make good use of their service year, noting that although the period was temporary, they should strive to make a lasting impact.

“You will meet people whose languages you do not speak, whose meals you have never tasted and whose faith you may not be familiar with. Do not merely tolerate them, learn from them. Our diversity is not a weakness to be managed; it is the foundation of a stronger Nigeria,” she said.

A total of 2,913 corps members were sworn in, comprising 1,274 males and 1,639 females.
