The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit seeking to compel the Nigeria Police Force to reopen and conduct a fresh investigation into the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
Justice James Omotosho, in a judgment delivered on Thursday, ruled that the Registered Trustees of Break the Silence Foundation lacked the legal standing to institute the case.
The court also described the application as speculative and lacking sufficient merit. Justice Omotosho noted that the foundation failed to present the original police investigation report that could have supported its claim that the previous investigation was inadequate.
The judge further warned lawyers involved in ongoing cases against discussing matters before the court during media interviews or on social media, stressing that such conduct could amount to professional misconduct.
Mohbad died in Lagos in September 2023 at the age of 27, and his death has continued to generate public interest and calls for clarity over the circumstances surrounding it.
