The Adamawa State Jail Delivery Committee has freed 55 inmates and granted bail to 51 others.

Only minor civil disputes, infractions and petty theft usually get favourable review by the jail delivery committee, while critical violations such as culpable homicide, rape, and gang-related offenses are left for conventional courts to continue to handle.

The latest facility visit, to Yolde Pate Correctional Centre in Yola South Local Government Area, was conducted on Wednesday by the jail delivery committee under its chairperson, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman who is also the chief judge of the state.

Other members of the committee include representatives of the Nigerian Bar Association, the Deputy Chief Registrar of Area Court, the Legal Department of the Adamawa State Police Command, the Director of Public Prosecutions in the Ministry of Justice, and the Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

At the Yolde Pate Correctional Centre, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman donated delivery kits to a female inmate who gave birth to a baby girl while awaiting trial, with the grateful family head naming the girl Hafsat, in honour of the chief judge.

In a similar development, the chief judge gave transport fare to discharged inmates from Bauchi, Yobe and Gombe states.
