A third factional chairman has emerged in the Adamawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Dr Markus Peter Danbaki was sworn in as chairman by a faction of the party on Sunday, September 13, making him the latest of three individuals laying claim to the chairmanship of the party in Adamawa State, the home state of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Before Danbaki’s emergence, two factions of the party had been led by Sadiq Dasin and Alhaji Sai’du Naira, respectively.
The development has further deepened the crisis within the party in a state where two individuals were earlier laying claim to the ADC governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 election.
Hamman Tukur Modibbo, who came second in the party’s governorship primary election held in May, is listed on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal as the party’s candidate.
However, Omar Suleiman, who won the primary election, has challenged the emergence of Modibbo as the candidate and is currently seeking redress in court.
For the party’s chairmanship, Danbaki was inaugurated at a ceremony held late Sunday.
A factional legal adviser of the party, Ibrahim Ahmad, administered the oath of office on Danbaki in the presence of party members loyal to his faction.
The latest development is expected to further complicate the leadership crisis within the ADC in Adamawa State.
