… Says fear of possible cover-up unfounded

ASABA – GOVERNOR Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State Monday, vowed that justice would prevail in the circumstances that led to the demise of the Deputy Director in the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Unity Adeda.
Hen also assured that work of the Administrative Panel set up by the state government to unravel the circumstances that resulted in the fracas that led to Adeda’s death, would not in any way undermine or frustrate the police investigation.
Oborevwori stated during a send-forth ceremony in honour of the immediate past Head of Service, Mr. Reginald Bayoko and retired Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Extra-Ministerial, Departments who served in the State.
Represented at the event by Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, the governor condoled the Adeda family on the demise of the Deputy Director.
He emphasized that he could not fully comment on the matter as the police was carrying out investigation.
Oborevwori said: “I cannot fully comment on the incident because the matter is under police investigation. I assure all Deltans and residents in the state that justice will prevail.
“We have also constituted an Administrative Panel to unravel the circumstances that resulted in the fracas at the Secretariat. that subsequently led to Mr Adeda’s demise.
“For the chief makers who are trying to cast aspersions on the Administrative Panel, let it be known that the work of the Panel will not in any way undermine or frustrate the police investigation.
“The Panel is merely to ascertain and establish if there was any breach of the Civil Service rules and regulations by the affected officers, and make recommendations to guide future conduct.
“For the sake of transparency and to avoid suspicion, we made sure there is no politician on the Panel; all the members are from the organised labour and the Civil Service. So, the fear of a possible cover-up is unfounded.
“This tragedy is a cautionary tale to all of us to always exercise. maximum restraint and maintain calmness even in the face of extreme provocation.
Self-control is the hallmark of maturity.”
