It is","\u003Cdiv style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" >\u003C\u002Fdiv>\n\u003Cp>Chinedu Eze\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>In Nigeria, there have been tragic accidents involving helicopter operation providing shuttle service for the oil and gas industry and some of them ended with fatalities.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>It is in order to stem such accidents and incidents that a firm, Kasi Aviation established medical and emergency system in Nigeria’s aviation industry.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>So, recently Airbus Helicopters and Kasi Healthcare signed an agreement for the procurement of up to two Airbus H135 helicopters for emergency medical services.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The agreement, which was announced at the 3rd Nigeria Airlift 2026 Forum, marked a significant milestone in the development of advanced emergency medical aviation services in Nigeria.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>With the agreement, Kasi Healthcare becomes the first customer for the HEMS-configured Airbus H135 helicopter in Nigeria, introducing a purpose-built aircraft solution designed specifically to support critical medical missions, emergency response, patient transfers, and life-saving aeromedical operations.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Medical Director of Kasi Healthcare, Dr. Dayo Osholowu, said: “We are incredibly proud to pioneer the introduction of the HEMS-configured Airbus H135 in Nigeria. This strategic investment transforms our ability to provide rapid, life-saving patient transfers and critical care in transit. Partnering with Airbus allows us to elevate national healthcare standards and deliver dependable emergency response when and where it is needed most.” \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Head of Sales for Africa at Airbus Helicopters, Fabrice Rochereau, said: “We are proud to partner with Kasi Healthcare as they pioneer the development of a sustainable HEMS ecosystem in Nigeria. The H135 has proven itself globally as the premier choice for emergency medical missions due to its high performance and versatile cabin layout. The agreement underscores our commitment to supporting the expansion of life-saving air medical capabilities across West Africa.” \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The strategic investment by Kasi Healthcare aims to strengthen Nigeria’s emergency healthcare infrastructure. Beyond aircraft acquisition, the partnership includes comprehensive support from Airbus Helicopters to build local capacity, focusing on HEMS flight crew training and pilot development as well as aircraft engineer training and technical capability building. Airbus will also assist with maintenance support infrastructure as well as operational support to ensure international standards of safety and reliability. \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The partnership between Kasi Healthcare and Airbus Helicopters represents a major step towards positioning Nigeria as a regional leader in air medical services across the energy and public safety sectors, improving access to emergency medical care, and supporting national healthcare transformation objectives.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The H135 is the undisputed leader in the HEMS market, known for its high safety standards, compact footprint, and low sound levels. Equipped with the Helionix digital avionics suite and a 4-axis autopilot, it offers an ideal platform for primary and secondary medical missions, providing a spacious and flexible cabin layout for medical crews and their equipment. \u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>According to Airbus, The H135 is a light twin-engine helicopter that combines compact design with Airbus’ Helionix avionics for emergency medical services, law enforcement, utility, private business (PBA), military training and offshore energy operations. With the lowest operating and maintenance costs in its class and inspection intervals of 500 flight hours, the H135 delivers mission flexibility where operational efficiency and confined area access are critical.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Equipped with FADEC-controlled engine options (Safran Arrius 2B2 Plus or Pratt & Whitney PW206B3) and featuring a 4-axis autopilot with flight envelope protection and synthetic vision system, the H135 maintains availability rates exceeding 95% for critical missions. Part of a family with over 1,600 aircraft delivered to 325+ operators globally and 8 million flight hours accumulated, the platform has established a proven operational record across decades of civil and governmental service, including more than 700 dedicated EMS helicopters worldwide.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>The chopper is fitted with a bearingless main rotor, Airbus’ signature Fenestron shrouded tail rotor, the H135 provides best-in-class performance throughout its flight envelope.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp>Two full authority digital engine control (FADEC)-equipped engine options are available: Safran Helicopter Engines’ Arrius 2B2 Plus and Pratt & Whitney Canada’s 206B3. for one-third of the global population, according to figures released Wednesday by the United Nations.\u003C\u002Fstrong>\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>The increased cost of food makes a healthy diet require an average of $4.28 in purchasing power parity dollars per person per day, per the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation’s 2026 State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World report.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>“As a result, 2.69 billion people — almost one in every three people in the world — still cannot afford a healthy diet,” Maximo Torero Cullen, the FAO’s chief economist, told a press conference at UN headquarters in New York.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>The full report will be presented July 21 at the organisation’s headquarters in Rome.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>The costs are not distributed equally — staple foods such as beans and grains, for instance, account for 13 percent of the cost of a healthy diet, while animal products account for nearly 30 percent, and fruits and vegetables make up 16 percent.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>“The challenge therefore is not to produce enough calories, it is making nutrient-rich foods more affordable,” Torero said, adding that local food production would greatly reduce the costs associated with a healthy diet.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>In Africa, costs would be reduced by almost 80 percent with locally produced foods versus a standardised global food basket.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>The FAO economist recommended redirecting government subsidies toward more nutrient-rich foods than cereals, like rice and wheat.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>He also noted that the investment in local infrastructure and logistics would significantly reduce costs, as “between 70 and 75 percent of the cost of a healthy diet is generated after food leaves the farm.”\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cp>Torero said the part of the world with the highest costs was Latin America, specifically the Caribbean, possibly due to the emphasis on exporting food products rather than Andrew Kaluya (NUP, Kigulu County South) over suspected severe malaria cases affecting students in urban boarding schools.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>The minister said Uganda has continued to conduct genomic surveillance of malaria parasites through the National Malaria Control Division in collaboration with research partners, and no evidence has been found of a more dangerous malaria strain.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>“This surveillance has not detected any change in the virulence of the parasites currently circulating in the country. Plasmodium falciparum remains, as it has for decades, the dominant species in Uganda, accounting for approximately 97 per cent of infections,” Baryomunsi said.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>He said available genomic and clinical surveillance data do not support claims that a new malaria strain is responsible for the recent deaths.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>The minister confirmed that four learners in the Kampala Metropolitan Area died from severe malaria, including two students from Makerere College School, one from Mengo Senior Secondary School and one from Gayaza High School.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>He, however, clarified that other recent student deaths reported at Naalya, Ndejje, Katakwi and Kakiri secondary schools were caused by suicide, trauma and road accidents, and were unrelated to malaria.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>The increased vulnerability among urban learners, the minister said, is linked to reduced exposure to malaria due to declining transmission levels in Kampala and other urban areas.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>He said children raised in low-transmission areas do not develop the same level of immunity against malaria as those in high-transmission areas, making them more vulnerable to severe disease when infected.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>To address the challenge, the Ministry of Health, together with the Ministry of Education and Sports, is implementing measures including rapid diagnostic guidelines, training of school administrators on emergency referrals and strengthening health services in schools.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>The Government is also planning rapid malaria risk assessments, confidential inquiries in affected schools, issuance of a ministerial circular on malaria prevention and treatment, and phased deployment of school nurses.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>He said government is committed to ensuring that no learner dies or suffers prolonged disruption of education due to delayed prevention, diagnosis or treatment of malaria.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Responding to the statement, Hon.
