Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, has praised the spirit of his squad, singling out Victor Osimhen’s presence as evidence that the team is building a new identity.
Chelle watched as Nigeria came from a goal down to defeat Madagascar 2-1 in a 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifier on Friday.
Goals from debutants George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor gave Nigeria victory over Corentin Martins’ side in Uyo.
Speaking to reporters during his post-match interview, Chelle said, “I was very happy that Victor [Osimhen] was here.
“It shows that this group is trying to move forward and build something new. I am very proud of the team’s spirit.”
Osimhen, who did not feature against Madagascar due to a groin injury, was present at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium to support his teammates.
The Galatasaray striker was replaced in the Super Eagles squad by Taiwo Awoniyi following the injury he sustained while playing for his club earlier this month.
