Madagascar head coach, Corentin Martins, has explained why his team lost 2–1 to Nigeria in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifier on Friday.
Martins watched as Kari Eshan gave Madagascar an early lead, but two goals from debutants George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor ensured the Super Eagles defeated Madagascar in Uyo.
Speaking to reporters at his post-match interview, Martins admitted that his players were tired in the second half against Nigeria after playing a good first half.
“We played a game with Nigeria with good players. We also want to be tactical,” Martins said.
“We were good with the ball in the first half; we went with the ball well, and in the second half, we were physically tired.
“We made some moves to win the game, but we were not consistent throughout the game.”
