The Paris FC winger made his 100th appearance for the Super Eagles on Friday night as Éric Chelle’s side defeated Madagascar’s Barea 2-1 in a keenly contested encounter.
Simon came on for Akor Adams in the 61st minute to mark the landmark appearance.
After the match, the 31-year-old was presented with a special commemorative frame featuring a Super Eagles jersey bearing his name and the number 100.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Simon expressed his gratitude to the coaches, journalists and everyone who played a role in his journey with the national team.
“First of all, I would like to say thanks to the coach for the opportunity, thanks to every coach that gave me this opportunity, and also thanks to you all, the journalists,” Simon said.
“Of course, this gives me joy and it’s a great privilege to play for the Super Eagles. It’s a dream come true. I never believed I would get there, and I never believed I would play 100 games.”
