The Secretary-General of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Sola Ebiseni, has resigned from his position after dumping the Labour Party for the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Ebiseni, who, until his resignation, was a chieftain of the Labour Party and the South-West Coordinator of the Presidential Campaign Council of Peter Obi in the 2023 general elections, disclosed the move during a meeting with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State.
The former Afenifere scribe also declared his support for President Bola Tinubu’s second term in office during the meeting at the Government House in Akure, the state capital.
Speaking on his decision, Ebiseni said, “Our declaration today for the President’s second term is in tandem with the views of most Nigerians and political gladiators that the office of the President should still be in southern Nigeria in the interest of the political stability of the federation.
“Politics is local, and as a leader of my Ilaje coastal people of Ondo State, this road is the most significant life-changing project for us, and I am here to join President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for its full implementation, particularly its proper coastal alignment in the state.”
While receiving the former Labour Party chieftain, Aiyedatiwa assured him and his supporters of full integration into the APC campaign apparatus across all elections.
The governor noted that Ebiseni’s extensive political experience, including his tenure as a former chairman of the old Ilaje-Ese-Odo Local Government and his multiple terms as a commissioner in Ondo State, would strengthen the campaign for President Tinubu’s re-election.
He further identified Ebiseni’s role as Secretary-General of Afenifere and his active involvement in other socio-political organisations as strategic assets to the party’s campaign efforts.
