The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11 Headquarters, Osogbo, AIG Bassey S. Ewah, has charged officers in Ile-Ife and Edunabon, Osun State, to improve their performance and strengthen efforts to combat crime.
Ewah gave the charge on Thursday during an operational visit to the Area Command and Divisional Police Headquarters in Ile-Ife, as well as the Edunabon Divisional Police Headquarters.
The visit was aimed at inspecting available facilities, assessing operational readiness, reviewing security strategies and evaluating personnel performance across the police formations.
According to a statement issued by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ojedele Olanrewaju Tunji, the exercise was also designed to provide strategic directives to enhance effective policing and improve security across the areas under the formations’ jurisdiction.
During the visit, the AIG charged the Area Commander and Divisional Police Officers to “intensify their efforts, demonstrate greater commitment to their statutory responsibilities, and improve on their previous performance."
He emphasised the need for “proactive policing, effective supervision, intelligence-led operations and prompt responses to distress calls."
He described these measures as essential to preventing crime and maintaining law and order.
Ewah also urged personnel to sustain engagement with members of the public, stressing the importance of cooperation between the police and communities in addressing security challenges.
The police chief reiterated that “operational effectiveness, public confidence, and the protection of lives and property remained key priorities of the Nigeria Police Force.
"Uphold the highest standards of integrity and ensure that members of the public received professional and efficient policing services."
The operational visit forms part of Ewah’s ongoing efforts to strengthen supervision, assess operational capacity and ensure improved service delivery across police formations within Zone 11.
Zone 11 comprises Osun and Oyo states, with its headquarters in Osogbo.
The visit was intended to assess the operational capabilities of the formations and ensure that officers remain committed to their responsibilities.
