The family of the late Dr. Chike Akunyili, husband of former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, Prof. Dora Akunyili, will mark the fifth anniversary of his death with a free medical outreach for indigent residents in Enugu.
The memorial outreach is scheduled for Sunday, September 28, 2026, at the premises of St. Leo’s Hospital, Abakpa Nike Lake Road, Enugu, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Dr. Chike Akunyili, a medical doctor, was killed by gunmen at Nkpor Junction, Onitsha, Anambra State, on September 28, 2021.
According to a statement by the family, the decision to commemorate his fifth year remembrance with a free medical outreach was inspired by his lifelong dedication to medicine and service to humanity.
The statement said, “Five years may have passed, but your legacy of compassion, service and excellence continues to inspire and bless lives.”
Services to be provided during the outreach include general medical consultations, health screening, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, as well as free medications, subject to availability.
In their tribute, the family described the late doctor as a man whose life was defined by compassion and service.
“Daddy, you’ll forever be remembered. Rest on Omiyi,” the family said.
The family invited friends, well-wishers, medical colleagues and members of the public to participate in the memorial and take advantage of the free healthcare services.
