Alleged matchet attack: Police urge victims to lay formal complaints

Daily Post about 4 hours 1 mins read

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has urged persons who were reportedly matcheted and robbed to formally report to the nearest station for further action.

There are reports circulating on social media that a man armed with a machete has been attacking and robbing residents around Osongama and Four Lanes in Uyo.

The command in a statement by Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, on Thursday, asked the victims to provide relevant details, including the date, time and location of the incident, description of the suspect, items allegedly taken, and any other available evidence.

She noted that such reports will assist the police in investigating the allegations, establishing the facts, and identifying and tracing the suspect.

”Members of the public who have credible information that may assist the investigation are equally encouraged to contact the police,” John added.

The spokesperson also urged residents to remain calm, avoid confronting anyone suspected of carrying a weapon, and to promptly report suspicious activities to the police.

She equally urged them to refrain from circulating unverified information capable of causing unnecessary fear or panic.
