Anambra govt confirms boy assaulted by guardian now in protective custody

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Anambra State Government has confirmed that a 10-year-old boy allegedly assaulted by his guardian in Awada, Obosi, in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, is now in protective care.

A viral video of the minor circulating on social media showed him with scalded skin and injuries all over his body, allegedly inflicted by his guardian, a woman, and her husband.
No reason was given for the maltreatment, but another video making the rounds on social media showed residents of Awada, Obosi, storming the woman’s home, with aggrieved women confronting and condemning her and her husband for allegedly torturing the boy.

However, in a social media post, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Esther Chinyere Onyekesi, confirmed that the boy is now in protective care.

The commissioner said: “I want to thank the good and caring people of Anambra State for bringing this case to our notice. The boy is receiving treatment now. My team and the Obosi community women leader visited him.

“The offenders must face the law for this barbaric act. If you see something, please say something.”

It is, however, not clear whether the woman responsible for the act has been handed over to law enforcement officers.
